The KC Chiefs won its first preseason game 34-19 against the Arizona Cardinals last night at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Unofficially there were four Chiefs injuries: offensive lineman Jeff Allen, receiver De’Anthony Thomas, running back Knile Davis and linebacker Ramik Wilson.

The Chiefs fell behind 10-0 midway through the first quarter, but the second and third-teams outscored the Cardinals 34-9 in the game’s final three quarters.

Here’s five standout KC Chiefs from last night’s game, and it starts with an outstanding quarterback performance.

Chase Daniel was crisp, finishing 17-for-21 with 189 yards and three touchdown passes.

He just scheduled about three extra meetings for the Arizona Cardinals defense at camp this coming week.

It helps to have a competent backup quarterback in these preseason games when the KC Chiefs know he’ll see a ton of snaps.

Daniel knows the offense. He operates at the pace Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Doug Pederson require and he’ll usually give you good film to analyze the other moving parts on the offense.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

He’s the consummate Vice President to Alex Smith. Sharp, prepared and commands the offense. Not quite a starter at the NFL level, but fully capable of what his job entails. He’s a prototypical back-up quarterback.

Daniel came in during the second quarter and did what he always seems to do. He was calm under pressure, limited mistakes and kept the offense on schedule.

Receiver Fred Williams seemed to be open all night, and Daniel didn’t miss him. Williams finished with six receptions, 82 yards and the Chiefs’ first touchdown this preseason.

Daniel looked like he did back in his Mizzou football days and ultimately was the difference in the scrimmage. Err…the football game.
