KC Sports Bracketology: The Best Season In KC Sports History
The votes have been tallied and the winner is…
Kansas City sports fans have voted and the 2013 Sporting Kansas City squad have been crowned as champions in the KC Sports Bracketology tournament. They completed the upset of the 1985 Kansas City Royals by a score of 76 votes to 54 votes.
Kansas City fans have proven to be some of the most loyal in all of sports and this latest voting shows how dedicated Sporting Kansas City’s fan base is. Royals fever is in full effect in Kansas City right now, but the Sporting fans stepped their game up and voted for their favorite team, edging out the number one seeded ’85 Royals, who won the World Series.
Sporting won the MLS Cup in 2013 though, and it was an exciting win to say the least. After a scoreless first half on a cold day in Kansas City, Kansas, Real Salt Lake took a 1-0 lead. Aurelien Collin helped the hometown heroes out though, tying things up in the 76th minute of the match.
The score stayed tied at one a piece so the match went to penalty kicks. After ten rounds of nail biting penalty kicks, Sporting Kansas City became the champions.

Now I can’t speak for those who voted, but I have a feeling these 2013 Sporting boys took home the gold because they’re the most recent Kansas City team to win a championship. Before they won it all, the last team to win a championship in Kansas City? The 2000 Kansas City Wizards.
I remember watching this championship game at my parents house. I was upstairs watching by myself because they were watching the Missouri Tigers square off against the Auburn Tigers in the SEC Championship game. I thought that was silly, but I’m not a Mizzou fan, so that’s probably why.
Anyway… I remember I was on the edge of my seat while watching the penalty kicks and when Sporting won it all, I started screaming at the top of my lungs. I was 23 at the time and hadn’t witnessed any of my local sports teams winning a championship in my entire life (I wasn’t into sports when the Wizards won in 2000). It was an exciting day and one I certainly won’t forget.
Obviously Kansas City fans feel the same way because the 2013 Sporting Kansas City team who won the MLS Cup have been voted as the best season in Kansas City sports history.
