Royals Rumors: Nearing Deal For Johnny Cueto

facebooktwitterreddit

Royals rumors are still buzzing, especially with the news that on Saturday the KC Royals and Cincinnati Reds nearly struck a deal for pitcher Johnny Cueto.

Now it appears that the Kansas City Royals will be welcoming Reds ace pitcher Johnny Cueto to their team, as Ken Rosenthal tweeted out on Sunday.

The Royals had been linked with Cueto for weeks, especially with their rotation not always being the most reliable. Sure Edinson Volquez has been nails, and Danny Duffy has pitched great recently, but the other three are question marks as of lately.

Cueto will bring a true ace to Kansas City, something that’s been missing since James Shields departed for San Diego during the off season. We all saw what a true ace could do for the Royals, which was to get them to the postseason and then, you know, to the World Series.

Saturday was when things got interesting regarding this trade. The Royals and Reds apparently had to cancel the said trade due to a minor league player’s medical records not checking out.

From then on, it appeared the KC Royals were the likely team to land Johnny Cueto and were willing to give up a prospect or two for the big time Reds pitcher. The minor league player going to Cincinnati has yet to be revealed at this moment.

This is a huge move for the Kansas City Royals. Last year, the team added small names and upset a lot of fans in the process, but this year it appears that Dayton Moore is serious about getting our boys in blue back to the World Series.

Adding Johhny Cueto isn’t a guaranteed ticket to the World Series, but it sure boosts the odds for sure. The Royals were missing a true ace on their squad and now they will have that in Cueto. Cueto will also be pitching in front of a stellar defense, which can only help the young star.

Cueto currently posts a 2.62 ERA in 19 starts and going 7-6 on the year.

With this addition, I would think Chris Young would be the odd man out in the rotation, but news on that will likely surface soon.

We will be sure to keep you updated when a deal is reached between the Royals and Reds.
