‘Tis the season for MLB trade rumors (more specifically, KC Royals rumors) and speculation.

What better time than the All-Star break to examine our very own KC Royals, and identify potential trade targets?

If you’re active on Twitter, or watch baseball pretty religiously, you’ll inevitably hear/read “breaking news” that a player was just pulled from a game for unknown reasons. This happens every day in baseball, but as the July 31st trade deadline looms, these incidents take on new meaning. Nine times out of ten, a player is simply removed for health reasons.

Ah, but then there’s that one in ten chance where a player is removed from the game, and you see him hugging his teammates in the dugout, hence “Hug Watch”. The hugs are an indication said player has either been traded, or called up to the big leagues.

More from Kansas City Royals

So, if you want to apply this kind of attention to the Kansas City Royals, you should probably be keeping a watchful eye on those coveted minor league prospects, or perhaps some of our big league bullpen arms, as they’re most likely the ones to be dishing out hugs upon their departure.

Identifying the weakness of this Kansas City Royals team is not difficult. I think we’d all like to see some upgrades at second base, outfield, and starting pitcher.

So far, the Royals have posted the best record in the American League with insanely little production from second base and right field, and a very patchwork starting rotation. Additionally, the gut-punch injury to Alex Gordon only intensifies the need for more outfield production.

If you’re reading this and hoping to see me talk about the possibilities of big splash moves, stop reading now. You won’t find Johnny Cueto, Cole Hamels, Justin Upton or Jay Bruce on my list. Reason being, I’m trying to make this list as realistic as possible.
