KC Royals: Young Fan Beside Himself Over Alex Gordon Injury

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Royals are awaiting word on the Gold Glove, All-Star left fielder Alex Gordon, who was injured in Wednesday’s win against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Kansas City Royals All-Star, Alex Gordon suffered a reported strained groin while chasing down a fly ball deep in left, according to Royals.com. He missed the ball but had to de-accelerate quickly to avoid plowing into the wall at full tilt.

He banged into the wall a bit anyway, but fell to the ground, lying on stomach, while the balled rolled a few feet away. Logan Forsythe scampered around the bases for an inside the park home run. Gordon was eventually carted off the field.

The fact Gordon did not try to retrieve the ball was a quick indication that something more serious had happened.

Gordon is not known for lollygagging while a ball is in play. 120 Sports has some video with discussion about the situation.

Alex Gordon is a KC Royals fan favorite because of his hustle and work ethic. Combined with his incredible defense, and it would be a big blow to lose Gordon for any significant length of time.

One fan in particular was beside himself over Gordon being carted off. This youngster is really upset.

While most us may not react as this fan did, many of us may feel like that inside. We still await word on just how serious the injury is.

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost didn’t have much information after the game, but he didn’t sound very hopeful. This video is from MLB.com.

Intelligent speculation would indicate he will miss the rest of the games leading up to the All-Star game, the festivities themselves, most likely, and several games after the break. This has to be the best case scenario.

Anyone who has played a lot of sports knows that when someone hears a muscle pop – that ain’t good!

For now, the Royals will look to Paulo Orlando, he of the walk-off grand slam on Monday, and Jarrod Dyson, who made some terrific plays of his own filling in after Alex Gordon left the game.

MLB.com has some nice video of Dyson’s great inside the park home. It was the first time since 1997 that two inside the park home runs were hit in the same game. Unfortunately, it took Gordon’s injury to lead to both of them.

Stay tuned. We will try to update this article when the KC Royals release more information about the extent of the Gordon’s injury. Hopefully it will be the best case scenario, and he will only miss a couple of weeks.

The Royals are addressing the press at 10:15. This will certainly be the topic of discussion.
