KC Royals: Two More Royals Added To MLB All-Star Team

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Royals added two more players to the American League roster for the MLB All-Star Game, as Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera both were selected to join the fun in Cincinnati. The Royals now have six total players appearing in the big game.

The Royals could see a seventh player as well, as Mike Moustakas is included in the American League final vote along with Xander Bogaerts, Yoenis Cespedes, Brett Gardner, and Brian Dozier.

On Sunday, it was announced that the Kansas City Royals would have four starters in the All-Star Game (Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, Alex Gordon, and Salvador Perez) and it seemed possible that no other Royals could get bids due to the high amount of Royals already appearing in the game. Fortunately, Wade Davis was not robbed of a spot.

Davis was absolutely deserving of a spot in the All-Star Game. After having an impressive season last season, no one expected Davis to have an even better season in 2015, but he has done just that. The Royals are approaching the halfway point of the season and Davis currently posts a 0.25 ERA in 36 innings. Hot damn!

Kelvin Herrera was a bit of a surprising pick honestly. It’s not that Herrera hasn’t been good this season, he definitely has, but A) He’s yet another Royal and B) He’s not even the second best pitcher in the bullpen.

Hey, I’m not going to complain about six KC Royals being in the All-Star Game. Herrera has a 2.20 ERA in 32.2 innings, which is still fantastic and I’m glad to see him earning his first appearance in the All-Star Game.

Ned Yost getting to pick the reserves and pitchers definitely put him in the position to get even more of his guys onto the roster and he now has six of his own players to work with.

Eric Hosmer did not earn a spot despite leading the first baseman race at one point, and despite Miguel Cabrera sitting out due to injury. Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, and Mark Teixeira all earned spots at first base. While Hosmer had a hot start to 2015, he had been slumping as of recently. It also didn’t help Hos that so many of his teammates were voted in, as that dwindled his chances of making it himself.

This is a nice change of pace for Kansas City Royals fans who have had to watch some pretty bad All-Stars over the years. One year after winning the American League pennant and making it to Game 7 of the World Series, the Royals have six total representatives in the MLB All-Star Game.

What do you think of the Royals selected to play in the All-Star Game? Do you think anyone else deserved to make it from Kansas City?
