KC Chiefs: Jamaal Charles Ranked 12th On NFL Top 100

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs have seen yet another player appear on the NFL Top 100, as running back Jamaal Charles appeared on Wednesday night. Charles was ranked 12th overall on the NFL Top 100 countdown, which is voted on by NFL players themselves.

Last year, Charles was ranked eighth on the countdown, but that was after a career high season where Charles saw the end zone 19 times (five of those being against the Oakland Raiders in a late season game).

A bit of a drop off was to be expected for the four-time Pro Bowler, especially with him being out for almost two full games due to injury. Despite missing some action, Charles still recorded 14 total touchdowns (nine rushing, five receiving) and had over 1,000 yards rushing.

CAN’T MISS: NOT EVERYONE IS A BELIEVER OF THE CHIEFS

Charles is easily the face of the Kansas City Chiefs’ organization and has been so since taking over the starting running back role in 2009. Most other running backs would consider the season Charles had in 2014 to be a good year, but Charles has seen much better seasons during his NFL years. That just shows how good of a running back he really is and how important he is to Kansas City, when a 14 touchdown and 1,000 yards rushing season isn’t considered as one of his better years.

  • Headed into 2015, Charles’ role will remain the same in Kansas City. He’s the go-to guy, but it’s nice to know that Knile Davis can step in should something happen. Also, the Chiefs will have more weapons this upcoming season including not just Charles, but Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce as well. Alex Smith should have a grand old time out on the field (assuming his offensive line is better and actually protects him this season).

As for the rest of the Chiefs players on the Top 100, Justin Houston was underrated, coming in at 27th on last week’s reveal. I honestly thought Houston would be a top 20, even top 10, player. The Chiefs also saw Jeremy Maclin and Tamba Hali appear earlier on (61 and 70 respectively).

It was a little surprising that Dontari Poe didn’t make the list this year, but the KC Chiefs still had four (technically three considering Maclin was included on this list due to his latest season with the Philadelphia Eagles) players appear on the countdown, which is pretty impressive.

Going back to Jamaal Charles, he’s had a great career with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he was rewarded after the 2013 season with a two-year $18.1 million deal to remain in Kansas City. At the time, the deal made Charles one of the league’s highest paid running backs.
