KC Chiefs News: Dominant Defense and Current and Future Stars

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news isn’t on one particular topic with it being in the off season and all, but the Chiefs are gearing up for the next phase of the off season program.

The KC Chiefs will kick off their preseason games on August 15th when they take on the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Fans are eagerly awaiting this season, as there is a lot of confidence that they can finally take the AFC West in 2015.

For starters, the team has one of the best defenses in all of football. Now I know Justin Houston still has yet to sign a deal to his liking, I have faith that John Dorsey will get something for Houston and he’ll be ready to play in a Chiefs uniform.

The Chiefs also have Mike DeVito, Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, Dontari Poe, Sean Smith, and newcomer Marcus Peters on the defensive side of the ball.

Second, the Chiefs have a bunch of offensive weapons as well. They signed Jeremy Maclin, who finally fits the mold of an elite wide receiver in Kansas City, and also have Jamaal Charles and Travis Kelce for Alex Smith to rely on.

KC Chiefs: Could Aaron Murray Be The Quarterback Of The Future [KC Kingdom]

"The reason I’m writing up a post about Aaron Murray and his potential to be a franchise quarterback in Kansas City is due to a conversation I had with a friend the other night. My friend is really high on the former Georgia Bulldog and said that he’s not anti-Alex Smith, but is just really eager to see what Murray can do in a starter role."

Dispelling the myths: The Chiefs and Justin Houston [Arrowhead Addict]

"There are people who actually think the Chiefs are better off without Justin Houston! Yes, gasp you should! Amazingly, there are fans that would rather see our superstar linebacker traded or allowed to walk after this season, than to pay the man what he’s worth and try to capitalize on the recent success that we’ve had. They’ve got their reasons, but quite frankly, those reasons don’t stand up at all."

Chiefs training camp: Defensive line is major strength [Arrowhead Addict]

"Kansas City has one of the best defensive lines in the National Football League, both in terms of starters and depth. The Chiefs have the best nose tackle in football with Dontari Poe, who is only entering his fourth year. Alongside him are returning veteran Mike DeVito and budding star Allen Bailey. Provided all three can stay healthy this season, this is a unit which can both stuff the run and rush the quarterback."

  • "Dorsey was aggressive from the outset of free agency, snagging former Philadelphia Eagles receiver and free-agent Jeremy Maclin with a five-year, $55 million deal. Maclin’s arrival was met with much fanfare. By adding the 26-year-old to the mix, Kansas City acquired its best receiver since Otis Taylor. Needless to say, the wait has been extensive."

The reasons the Kansas City Chiefs run defense should be better in 2015 [Arrowhead Pride]

"First, Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito are returning. Nothing against Josh Mauga, James-Michael Johnson and others who filled in at linebacker, but they’re not Derrick Johnson. And DeVito, if he comes back fully from his Achilles injury, should strengthen the rotation."

How can the Kansas City Chiefs get Marcus Peters on the field early on? [Arrowhead Pride]

"At least initially, Peters could be a starter. There is speculation that Smith could be suspended a game or two to start the season due to his DUI last year. The NFL hasn’t said anything yet but that’s hanging over the Chiefs offseason. If Smith is suspended, it’s reasonable to think Peters could snag his starting spot while he’s out."
