KC Chiefs: Ten Chiefs Players To Draft In Fantasy Football

Now I know that this really isn’t a particular player, but the KC Chiefs’ defense and special teams are really worth a look. Sure, the defense wasn’t anything spectacular last season, but there were crucial injuries that made the defense less than what it is certainly capable of.

With Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito coming back, the Chiefs’ linebacking core and defensive line are already improved. I know I really missed having a sure tackler like D.J. in the game to stop opponents from running inside.

Let’s not forget how good this special teams unit is too. With Dustin Colquitt, who is arguably the best punter in the league, and a slew of effective kick returners (De’Anthony Thomas and Knile Davis, anyone?), this special teams unit looks good.

Changing over to a fantasy football standpoint, the Chiefs are a solid pick for both defense and special teams.

Now as for special teams, we all now this return game is good. De’Anthony Thomas has had a full year of experience to develop his returning and will only get better.

Let’s look at defense first. Last season, the Chiefs were second in the league in terms of scoring defense, allowing only 17.6 points per game, according to the team’s NFL profile. They were also seventh overall in the league in yards allowed with 330.5 yards per game.

Don’t forget they did this without Derrick Johnson. This defense has a lot of room to improve. Also, Justin Houston is coming off of a monster 22-sack season. He’s going to look to hit that 20 mark again. The combination of Houston and Tamba Hali can really rack up the sack numbers against teams.

Looking out to the secondary, we remember there were a TON of dropped interceptions last season. If there were a stat for “near interceptions” the Chiefs would have ran away with it.

Here’s where I really like the Chiefs’ first round draft pick: Marcus Peters. The guy is capable of turning the ball over anywhere on the field. That’s really something that the Chiefs need in the secondary. If he can immediately help, you will see dividends with this fantasy draft pick.

Now as for special teams, we all now this return game is good. De’Anthony Thomas has had a full year of experience to develop his returning and will only get better. There are also good return men with Knile Davis and Albert Wilson. All of these returners can get you big points for your D/ST position.

The con here is, well, its a defense. You obviously don’t want to go take a defense off the board early. That’s just preposterous. Take them later and this pick could very well propel you to a championship.
