KC Chiefs: What Are The Strengths

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs have put together a fantastic off-season so far, and will look to build on that with their ten picks in the 2015 NFL Draft. On Monday we went over the Chiefs biggest weaknesses which were at center, offensive tackle, wide receiver two, and cornerback two.

Now we take a look at the biggest strengths for the KC Chiefs and how they can build around them.

The biggest strength the KC Chiefs currently have is easily their pass rush. Led by Justin Houston, Tamba Hali who just took a pay cut to stay with the team, and last years promising first round pick Dee Ford.

Houston is the best outside linebacker in the NFL, and it is hard for anybody to argue that after he fell just a half sack shy of the all time NFL Record with 22 sacks in 2014. He also managed a respectable eleven sacks in 2013, and ten in 2012.

Hali had one of his worst years statistically in 2014, and he is not getting any younger, but he still looked very dangerous rushing off the edge, and I think Houston would be the first to tell you that it is easier for him to rush the passer when Hali is coming off the opposite edge because he never takes a down off, and the quarterback can never just float away from Houston in the pocket.

The second strength for the KC Chiefs is Jamaal Charles and the rushing attack. Charles is one of the best running backs in the league, but he doesn’t always get the attention he deserves including from his own head coach Andy Reid which KC Kingdom’s own Mike Norris took a closer look into on Monday. Add one of the leagues best back up running backs in Knile Davis and you have maybe the best running back tandem in the league.

The third strength for the KC Chiefs is the ability to run after the catch. Jeremy Maclin, Jamaal Charles, DeAnthony Thomas, and Travis Kelce are absolute monsters in the open field, and they are all either in their primes, or entering the prime of their careers. Andy Reid’s offense specializes in getting guys the ball in space, and with a limited deep threat quarterback the Chiefs finally have the talent to succeed.

These are the areas the KC Chiefs must build around to be successful, and if they can bring in some depth and strengthen up the remainder of the team they will be in a good position to compete for the AFC Championship, and possibly even a Super Bowl.
