Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Breshad Perriman

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs hold the 18th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and really can go in just about any direction with the selection. Before free agency started, the Chiefs needed help at the wide receiver position, but since the acquisition of Jeremy Maclin, the need isn’t as vital. The Kansas City Chiefs could very well use a second round pick on a receiver, and if they do, Breshad Perriman of Central Florida would be a great option.

Perriman played for the Central Florida Knights for three seasons. During that span, he had 115 receptions for 2,243 yards and 16 touchdowns. Perriman’s breakout season was in 2014 (his junior year) when he exploded for 1,044 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had this to say about the Central Florida wide out,

"Rare combination of size, top-end speed and suddenness that can be found in some of the best receivers in the game. His routes are sloppy and a work in progress, but his hands keep him out of the top tier of receivers. His drops will drive teams crazy, but his physical traits and ability to hit the big play should warrant early round consideration."

Zierlein compared Perriman to Kenny Britt of the St. Louis Rams, and said that he’s a quick accelerator off the snap and has the size that NFL teams look for in a receiver. He also said Perriman has the ability to make difficult catches look easy.

Perriman was unable to attend the Combine, as he had a hamstring strain, according to Ryan Gillespie of Central Florida Future. Despite not participating in the Combine, Perriman has received attention for his abilities and was actually slated as a first round pick by Mel Kiper Jr. in his second mock draft. Kiper had Breshad Perriman being selected by the San Francisco 49ers.

If things play out this way in the real draft, the Chiefs won’t even have the chance to consider drafting this Central Florida stand out. Realistically, I don’t see Kansas City drafting him regardless, especially not in the first round. At this point, the Chiefs don’t have to fixate on getting a wide receiver and can focus on either the secondary or just drafting the best player available and plugging him into their roster.

I could, however, see the Kansas City Chiefs drafting Breshad Perriman in round two if he’s still available. I don’t see him still being on the board, but if he is, he’d be a solid second round choice for the Kansas City Chiefs.
