2015 NFL Draft: KC Chiefs Land Receiver In Mock Draft

facebooktwitterreddit

The 2015 NFL Draft is approaching, and mock drafts are floating around everywhere. Bucky Brooks of NFL.com had the KC Chiefs going after a wide receiver with their first round pick, which isn’t surprising considering the team had no wide receiver touchdowns in 2014.

Just who did Bucky Brooks have the Chiefs taking, you ask?

Dorial Green-Beckham has been linked with the Kansas City Chiefs several times so this doesn’t come as a huge surprise honestly. He’s a big, physical receiver and has the capabilities of becoming an outstanding pro receiver. The downside though is a huge one, in that DGB was let go from the Missouri Tigers due to his off the field issues.

Here is what Bucky Brooks had to say about the projection,

"Despite Jeremy Maclin coming over as the Chiefs’ new No. 1 WR, the opportunity to land an intriguing pass-catcher like DGB could help Andy Reid build a stellar supporting cast around Alex Smith."

Meh. If the KC Chiefs are going to draft a receiver in the first round, I’d rather it be a guy like DeVante Parker or Jaelen Strong. All in all though, I’d like to see the team address the secondary. Landon Collins out of Alabama would be a solid option at safety and would be less of a risky choice.

With the Chiefs adding Jeremy Maclin to their roster, the need for a wide receiver isn’t as strong, and I don’t see what the point of taking a guy like Dorial Green-Beckham is in the first round. It’s certainly possible that the guy can shape up and not cause problems, but I don’t want to be the team that experiments with that.

The rest of Brooks’ projections are interesting though. He had the New Orleans Saints drafting Marcus Mariota with the 13th overall pick despite the fact that the Saints had a dreadful defense last year. I guess all of the trades made Brooks think that Sean Payton and company might be ready to move on from the Drew Brees era.

Brooks also had Andrus Peat going to the Bengals, which means he was still on the board at pick 18. If Peat is available, I wouldn’t mind seeing Kansas City go in that direction even though the offensive line has been beefed up in free agency.

Would you want the Kansas City Chiefs to draft Dorial Green-Beckham?
