Sporting KC will face off against the Portland Timbers at 7:30 PM on Saturday at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Sporting KC will both be playing for their first win of the season as Sporting KC has one draw and one loss in two games, and Portland has two draws in two games.

Sporting KC played out a 1-1 draw in a hard fought game against the New York Red Bulls to start the season. In their second game Sporting KC traveled to Dallas to take on FC Dallas, and lost 3-1 in what would end up being a controversial game due to missed offside calls that went against Sporting KC.

Portland opened their 2015 season with a scoreless draw at home against Real Salt Lake. Portland earned an impressive 2-2 draw against the defending champions LA Galaxy.

Sporting KC will be getting captain centerback Matt Besler back after he missed the game against FC Dallas because he was serving a one game suspension for receiving a red card in the first game of the season against the New York Red Bulls.

Sporting KC will also be hoping that forward Dom Dwyer can find his form and put his chances away in what will be his 50th career start for Sporting KC. Dwyer was the second leading goal scorer in MLS in 2014, and set the Sporting KC team record with 22 goals scored. Dwyer is scoreless through two games in 2015, but has had several opportunities to score.

According to Steve Brisendine of SportingKC.com, Sporting KC forward Graham Zusi has been playing through pain that has carried over from the stress fracture he suffered in his foot in 2014. The injury hasn’t seemed to slow Zusi down, but will be something to watch the longer it lingers.

Sporting KC loaned 21 year-old goalkeeper Jon Kempin to the San Antonio Scorpions of NASL on Friday. The homegrown goalkeeper has spent much of his time with Sporting KC on loan. He spent a majority of the 2014 season with former Sporting KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen who coaches Oklahoma City Energy of USL.

Sporting KC has had a less than ideal start to the 2015 season that has left them at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. Portland is currently just outside of the playoff line at seventh place in the Western Conference.

Sporting KC and Portland only met once in the 2014 season with Sporting KC taking the 1-0 victory in Portland. Sporting KC currently holds the all-time advantage with three wins to Portland’s two wins. Portland can even the series with a victory on Saturday.
