KC Chiefs: Tamba Hali Restructures Contract

facebooktwitterreddit

Tamba Hali agreed to restructure his contract to give the Kansas City Chiefs more 2015 cap room, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Caplan:

Contract details are not currently available. However, this news fits with Sunday reports that the KC Chiefs are still interested in free-agent corner Darrelle Revis, who is certain to demand a significant contract.

Another reports indicates wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will rejoin coach Andy Reid in Kansas City once free-agency opens on Tuesday, according to a tweet by ESPN.com’s Chris Mortenson:

Mortenson also suggests long-time wide receiver Dwayne Bowe could be headed out the door, which makes sense if Maclin has a firm offer on the table from Kansas City.

However, the recent news also throws questions on the Chiefs likelihood of agreeing to a deal with center Rodney Hudson before the Monday deadline to keep him off the free-agent market.

Whatever else might be going on, it’s pretty clear that KC Chiefs general manager John Dorsey is poised to make some aggressive moves once free-agency begins on Tuesday.

The good news amid all of the rumors, is that Tamba Hali appears certain to remain in Red and Gold for at least another season. Hali has regularly expressed his desire to remain a Chief for life this off-season, making comments that money isn’t important to him.

The Chiefs defense can really use Hali’s veteran presence as a mentor to what is now a relatively young unit. Hali is the player with the second-most seniority on the team as the club’s first round pick in the 2006 draft, behind only punter Dustin Colquitt and fellow linebacker Derrick Johnson (both taken in the 2005 draft).

Tamba Hali is a clear candidate for the Kansas City Chiefs Hall-of-Fame recognition after he finally hangs up his cleats. Hali ranks third in club history with 79.5 sacks and second with 33 forced fumbles (only behind Derrick Thomas‘ club record 45).

While Hali only had 6.0 sacks last season, he has been a mentor to fellow outside linebacker Justin Houston and provides a great example of work ethic for the entire team.

Here’s to Tamba Hali’s return in 2015 and finishing his career as a Chief!
