2015 NFL Mock Draft: KC Chiefs Draft DeVante Parker In First Round

With the NFL in the off season, mock drafts are everywhere on the internet. The most recent 2015 NFL mock draft from Bucky Brooks of NFL.com has the KC Chiefs going after yet another wide receiver in the first round.

Despite not having a great year in 2014, DeVante Parker could be the solution at wide receiver that the Kansas City Chiefs have been looking for. Right now, the best option the Chiefs have at wide receiver is veteran Dwayne Bowe, who they drafted in the first round in 2007.

"The Chiefs have to find a WR1 to anchor the passing game. Parker is a polished playmaker with the size and length to thrive in Reid’s version of the West Coast offense.– Bucky Brooks"

During his four year career with Louisville, Parker racked up 2,775 receiving yards and had 33 touchdowns. His breakout year came during his junior season when he had 885 yards and 12 touchdowns. Of course, that was during Teddy Bridgewater‘s final season with the Cardinals and the team was on fire, but still. Twelve touchdowns is nothing to scoff at.

Adding a guy like Parker would instantly upgrade the Chiefs offense and would actually give Alex Smith a decent wide receiver to throw to. As everyone is aware by now, the Kansas City Chiefs failed to have a wide receiver catch a touchdown pass during the 2014 season.

Other options at wide receiver in the first round would be Amari Cooper, Dorial Green-Beckham, Jaelen Strong, and Kevin White. Cooper and White will likely be top 10 picks (Brooks has White going fourth overall to the Raiders and Cooper going 10th overall to the Rams).

According to Brooks, the rest of the guys will still be on the board by the time the Chiefs pick, but they choose to go with Parker. Green-Beckham is projected to go to the Baltimore Ravens 26th overall. Strong isn’t even projected to go in the first round in this mock draft.

Personally, I would be content with the KC Chiefs selecting DeVante Parker in the first round, but I also wouldn’t mind seeing the team take an offensive lineman. There are some decent options at wide receiver in free agency (though some wouldn’t come cheap) and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs chose to pick up their number one guy then.
