KC Chiefs Pro Bowl Players: Jamaal Charles

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles has been voted to the fourth Pro Bowl of his career, and was drafted by Chris Carter 5th overall in the Pro Bowl draft to play for Team Carter.

Jamaal Charles joins fellow running back’s Justin Forsett, Alfred Morris, and all of his Pro Bowl nominated teammates, Justin Houston, Dontari Poe, and Tamba Hali. Last year’s Pro Bowl had a memorable moment between Charles, and Chief’s Linebacker Derrick Johnson, when Charles took a hand off up the middle, but was blasted by Johnson in a hit that surprised a lot of people including Charles.

Chief’s fans wont have to worry about friendly fire in this years Pro Bowl, but they still have to worry about a few guys from the AFC West, including Von Miller, T.J. Ward, and Eric Weddle. Hopefully Charles will leave these guys in his dust, and doesn’t give them any opportunity to get a hit on him. Charles finished as his teams leading rusher in the 2013 Pro Bowl with three carries for 12 yards.

In 15 games played this season, Charles finished the season with 206 carries, 1,033 yards, and nine touchdowns rushing. Not counting the 2011 season that Charles missed with an injury, he had his lowest amount of carries since 2009 when he had 190, and his lowest rushing yard’s total since 2008 when he finished with 357. Charles became the Chief’s all-time leading rusher this season, currently with 6’856 yards in his career.

After setting career high’s in the receiving game in 2013 where he finished with 70 receptions, 693 yards, and seven touchdowns, Charles was underutilized in 2014, finishing with a disappointing 40 receptions, 291 yards, and five touchdowns. Despite the down year in the receiving game, Charles was still the Chief’s third leading receiver.

When utilized Charles looked to be every bit of a Pro Bowl caliber player, but it could be argued that he doesn’t belong to be there. Charles finished the season ranked 12th in the NFL in rushing yards, 16th in carries, tied for third in rushing touchdowns, and tied with Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell for the league lead in fumbles with five.
