KC Chiefs: Does ACL Injury Mean Tyler Bray is Done

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs announced on Tuesday that Tyler Bray has a torn ACL in his left knee and will need surgery. Bray went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft and was later signed by Kansas City. He dressed for one game that season, backing up Chase Daniel in the week 17 finale against the San Diego Chargers.

Bray didn’t see the field once in the 2014 regular season, as he was placed on injured reserve after preseason finished up.

"“Anytime one of your players suffers a significant injury like Tyler’s it is disappointing, and we hurt for the player. With Tyler’s injury having a longer recovery time, we’ve signed quarterback Terrell Pryor to a reserve/futures contract. As we’ve said before, we are always looking to add talented players to our roster, and Terrell was among the top players on our ready list at that position with his athleticism and experience. We believe having him in our quarterback room and working with our offensive coaches will enhance his growth.”– John Dorsey, Quote courtesy of KCChiefs.com"

A lot of confusion has now been cleared up about why the Kansas City Chiefs signed Terrelle Pryor to a reserve/future contract. Pryor was signed by the team just a few weeks ago and many people thought that meant it’d be time for Chase Daniel to go. Now it looks like Bray might be done in Kansas City as well, as 2015 is the last year on Tyler Bray’s contract.

With Daniel (presumably) gone and Bray out for the 2015 season, that leaves Alex Smith, Pryor, and Aaron Murray as the healthy quarterbacks on the KC Chiefs’ roster. It wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if John Dorsey decided to draft a quarterback sometime during the 2015 NFL Draft.

I’m not saying that Tyler Bray’s NFL career is over, but more than likely his time with the Chiefs will come to a close. Fans are excited about Aaron Murray, and have been ever since Dorsey and company took him in the fifth round of last year’s draft, and he very well could be Alex Smith’s right hand man in the next few years. Pryor also could do great things for the Kansas City Chiefs’ franchise.

While Bray didn’t do a whole lot during his time in Kansas City, he still could have a decent career for another team needing a quarterback. The Chiefs just didn’t have a chance for Bray to step up during the season. If given that chance, he very well could be a reliable backup for another team in the league.
