Kansas City Chiefs 2014 Pro Bowl Representatives

facebooktwitterreddit

The NFL announced on Tuesday that the players voted to represent the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2014 Pro Bowl are Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, Jamaal Charles, and Dontari Poe. Charles and Hali each make their 4th appearance in the Pro Bowl, while Justin houston makes his 3rd, and Dontari Poe makes his 2nd.

Justin Houston is the least surprising player on this list, he has 54 tackles, 9 assists, a league high 18 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles with one game remaining in the season. Houston has been the most dominating player on the Chiefs roster and one of the most dominating players in the league.

Jamaal Charles is having a down year by his standards but still deserves to be in the Pro Bowl, he has 193 attempts, 979 yards, 5.1 avg, 9 TD, and is tied for the league high in fumbles at 4. Charles has also contributed in the receiving game finishing with, 38 Receptions, 283 yards, and 5 TD. Charles had his lowest attempts per game (13.8) since 2009 when he had 12.7. (Does not include 2011 when he tore his ACL)

Dontari Poe is a player that doesn’t get a lot of attention, but he does all the dirty work and he does it very well. Poe’s production doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet but he is a work horse and its nice to see him get recognized despite all that. He has 36 tackles, 7 assists, and 5 sacks on the season with one game left to play.

The most surprising player to make the Pro Bowl from the Chiefs is definitely Tamba Hali. I’m not saying Hali doesn’t deserve to go to the Pro Bowl, but the argument can be made that other players had a better season than him. Hali has 45 tackles, 12 assists, 6 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. Hali’s 6 sacks is his second lowest sack total of his career, and his lowest since 2008 when he finished with 3.

I feel like Sean Smith and Dustin Colquitt were the biggest snubs to not make the Pro Bowl for the Chiefs. Colquitt is in my mind the best punter in the NFL and one of the best punters to ever play the game, just take the fake pass, punt for example. I believe Sean Smith missed out on the Pro Bowl because of his lack of interceptions, but Smith has never been a big interception guy. He has finished with 0,1,2,2,2, and has 1 this year.

It is nice to see that the Chiefs will be well represented again this year, and there is always a chance that a couple more Chiefs will join the roster to fill in for injured guys, and guys that are playing in the Super Bowl.
