The Leopards are 7-2, but have played just onE school from one of the big five power conferences. They lost to West Virginia by 27 points early in the season.

Lafayette features three players averaging double digit points – Dan Trist (17.0), Seth Hinrichs (12.6), and Joey Ptasinski (12.0). Trist also leads his squad in rebounds, grabbing six caroms an outing,

As you would expect, this game is a huge mismatch. Kansas (8-1) is ranked tenth in both the Associated Press and the Coaches polls, and they are second in the nation in the RPI, trailing only Kentucky, who accounted for the Jayhawks’ only loss.

Kansas has won seven straight games since that Kentucky debacle (72-40), and have navigated through an impressive schedule, knocking off Tennessee, Michigan State, Florida, Georgetown, and Utah in their last five games.

Currently, the Jayhawks have played the toughest schedule in all of college basketball. Even though they are not ranked, Kansas’ next four opponents are a combined 26-9. These opponents may cause the Jayhawks strength of schedule to dip slightly going into conference play, but they should still have the hardest slate of games in the country, just like they did last season.

Perry Ellis continues to lead the Kansas Jayhawks in scoring (14.3) and rebounding (7.0). Frank Mason III is second in scoring (10.6), and paces the team in assists (3.8).

One thing the Jayhawks are looking for against the Leopards is consistency. They trailed by 18 to Florida before storming back, and the led by 21 against Utah before letting the Utes back into the game. Kansas needs to jump out early against Lafayette, and maintain a big lead the whole game.

They need to keep their focus and execute on both ends of the court for forty minutes, and not allow Lafayette any hope of pulling a massive upset.

The Jayhawks also need to have a good game shooting from the field. They are connecting on just 41.7% of their field goal attempts (192 for 461). Cliff Alexander (52.4%) and Landen Lucas (54.5%) are the only players among the ten that see regular playing time that hit more than half their shots.

Kansas will most likely be without back up point guard DeVonte Graham, who has an injured toe. Look for Head Coach Bill Self TO spread out the duties a little when Mason needs to rest.

Kansas should win this one easily. Let’s hope they keep their focus and play well.
