The Kansas City Chiefs put a big dent in their 2014 playoff hopes with their stunning 24-20 loss to the 0-10 Oakland Raiders Thursday night.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The 7-4 Chiefs no longer control their playoff destiny because they will have to have help to win the AFC West title—even if they beat Denver 10 days from now because the Broncos will still hold tiebreakers in division record and conference record.

The Chiefs will probably need to win at least 10 games to make the playoffs, and still face tough games against Denver, Pittsburgh, at Arizona, and against the Chargers as well as a rematch vs. the Raiders.

Front office favorite Chris Getz returns to the Royals organization in a front office job. The Royals also added to their organizational depth by trading for AAA outfielder Reymond Fuentes.

Kansas State’s victory over West Virginia helps set up the top 3 Big 12 teams for decent Bowl Game bids, and puts K-State and TCU in position to make a play for the National Title playoffs. K-State would have to catch some luck to find themselves in the title picture.

Meanwhile, Bill Self is trying to find solutions after the Kansas Jayhawks got embarrassed by no. 1 Kentucky with a 72-40 blowout.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Arrowhead Pride – How many more wins do the Chiefs need to make the Playoffs?

"The biggest takeaway from the Raiders loss is that it put a major dent in the Chiefs division title hopes, which means their hopes of playing a postseason game at Arrowhead. The Chiefs could have been in position to control a lot of their own destiny by winning that game and forcing a first place showdown with the Broncos next week"

Arrowhead AddictA.J. Jenkins placed on IR to make room for Jason Avant

"Looking ahead, Jenkins’ potential offseason release would free up $1.34 in cap space, while the Chiefs would gain $3.55 million by parting ways with Avery."

KANSAS CITY ROYALS

Kings of Kauffman – Chris Getz takes job in Royals front office:

"Sure enough, the Royals did come calling. And now, Getz is back in the organization, accepting a job to be a part of the Royals player personnel and development department."

Royals Review – Royals trade for minor league outfielder Reymond Fuentes, add Jorge Bonifacio and Orlando Calixte to 40 man roster:

"Fuentes hit .294/.363/.416 in 372 plate appearances across AA San Antonio and AAA El Paso, swiping 25 bases in 28 attempts. Fuentes had a fantastic 2013 season, hitting .330/.413/.448, mostly for AA San Antonio. Before this season, John Sickels had given Fuentes a C+ grade, ranking him the 17th best Padres prospect"

KANSAS STATE WILDCATS

Yahoo Sports – K-State’s win over West Virginia the best thing for Big 12:

"While no one has been talking about the possibility of Kansas State winning the Big 12, it’s still possible. If the Wildcats were to win out and TCU were to lose at least one of its final two contests, the Wildcats would be the conference champions and might even claim a spot in the College Football Playoff."

KANSAS JAYHAWKS

KUSports.com – Self seeks urgency from Jayhawks after 32 point loss to Kentucky:

"“I thought there was very little sense of urgency compared to what I thought we should have had because of the way we performed on Tuesday, so we practiced this morning at 6 a.m.,” KU coach Bill Self said Friday.“We’ll practice again this afternoon. Not as punishment,” he added of two-a-days on Friday. “We’ve got to get better. Hopefully that will be the case.”"
