THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

player. 124. . RB. Kansas City Chiefs. Jamaal Charles. 1

This seems simple enough, but occasionally, Andy Reid forgets it. Last Sunday, Reid all but ignored Jamaal Charles after the Chiefs’ first possession. Charles is one of the most dangerous players in the NFL. You have to get him the football.

Of course, you can’t run him or throw it to him every down, but if he doesn’t get the ball at least 20 times a game, the the coach has something to answer for, especially in a loss.

The Chiefs will need to be successful in the running game and short passing game just to keep the game close. If this is a high possession game, Kansas City will have no chance. Use Charles to grind out some first downs and to milk the clock. Maybe he will break one.

Pass Rush. Kansas City Chiefs. Get To Manning. 2. player. 124.

If the Chiefs fail to knock Peyton Manning down, make him feel some pressure, it will be an easy day for the Broncos. Manning took the Chiefs pass rush out of both games last season with quick passes. In Denver, his jersey was spotless.

He picked apart the Chiefs secondary in both games last year, as Defensive Coordinator Bob Sutton had no answers to stop the Broncos’ offensive. If there isn’t a better defensive game plan Sunday, who knows how badly Kansas City will get crushed.

With a depleted defense, the outlook is grim against an offense as talented as Denver’s.

Fill The Holes. 3. player. 124. . OL,LB. Kansas City Chiefs

It is unbelievable how many holes this team has. Those holes are even more exposed with the injuries to Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito. Jeff Allen is banged up and Mike McGlynn was as ineffective as any guard you will every see in the NFL last week against the Tennessee Titans.

Josh Mauga and James-Michael Johnson are going to have to step up big time. There was hope not so long ago that Nico Johnson might be able to make a contribution to this team but he can’t even make the roster, even with these injuries. That was a big draft fail for John Dorsey.

Maybe Eric Fisher will be better. Maybe Kansas City can get something out of Eric Kush or Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. Maybe the Chiefs won’t miss the rock steadiness of Derrick Johnson in the middle and DeVito’s talent for occupying a blocker or two on every play.

That’s a lot of maybes.
