Looking Around the Kingdom, the Kansas City Royals pulled off their 7th straight  series win by taking 3 out of 4 from the Oakland A’s with Thursday’s 7-3 win at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals have bounced back to win 2 straight after Oakland snapped KC’s 8-game winning streak on Tuesday.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Royals now face a 9-game road trip against 3 losing teams in Minnesota, Colorado, and Texas after running a gauntlet 10 out of 13 games against playoff contenders in Oakland, San Francisco, and Oakland again (the other 3 came against 4th-place Arizona) Kansas City went 11-2 during the stretch.

I’m trying to resist the built-in cynicism created by 29-years failure that keeps whispering to me that the Royals will collapse against the so-called “cupcakes”.

Training camp in winding down for the Chiefs. After Friday’s pre-season game against Carolina, the club will return to Kansas City to start their regular season routine.

The Chiefs aren’t the only area football team tooling up for the season. MU, KU, and K-State are all getting ready for NCAA Championship division football. K-State is ranked no. 21 in the USA Today coaches poll.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS

"The Four Letter Network has even given the Royals air time during their highlight shows. No longer are they getting the obligatory fifteen seconds where a single play and the score of the game are shown. Now, the Royals are getting their own segments and true airtime. The Royals, at least for now, have become the latest media darlings."

"The fear that many of us have from this season is that the team is learning the wrong lessons from its success and the winning will be short-lived. The fear is the Royals believe their success is due to clutch hitting, batting average with runners in scoring position, and pitching fueled by the BABIP fairy. Most fans want a sustainable win-cycle, a perennial contender, multiple rings."

There is no Miguel Cabrera in the lineup. No Mike Trout. No Robinson Cano.

"In fact, what’s really odd is that the Royals are a playoff contender even though they don’t have a single offensive player having an overachieving season."

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

"One day after ESPN’s Adam Teicher wrote that Dwayne Bowe “hasn’t had a great camp,” head coach Andy Reid told reporters on the final day of Kansas City Chiefs training camp that Bowe has been dealing with a finger injury."

KANSAS STATE WILDCATS

"Kansas State senior quarterback Jake Waters garnered his fourth major college football award watch list honor Thursday as he was named a candidate for the Manning Award, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced."

KANSAS JAYHAWKS

"Now a 6-foot-2, 265-pound junior defensive lineman on scholarship after bouncing around from position to position as a special-teams and show-team warrior in 2013, Semke spent some of his spare summer time as “extra muscle” for a bail bonds business."

There you have it KC fans—the news Around the Kingdom.
