Looking Around the Kingdom, the Chiefs are now only 2 days away from their pre-season opener on August 7 vs. the Cincinnati Bengals. QB Alex Smith, will get a good test against another playoff team. Plus we’ll get to see Andy Dalton and his brand new $115 million contract extension, which may—or many not—affect Alex Smith‘s negotiations with the Chiefs.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Roya[s had an off day on Monday before continuing their road trip with an interleague series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. While Arizona has struggled this season, they have also become prone to knocking down hitters on any kind of thin pretext. Even on clear accidents, the Diamondbacks will retaliate. Sometimes, they knock down hitters because they’re annoyed at them for succeeding against their pitchers.

Meanwhile, the mystery of Andrew Wiggins’ disappearing jersey has been solved. While many speculated that the NBA store discontinued the Wiggins Cavs jersey due to his widely-rumored trade to Minnesota, the NBA league office indicated that the jersey was unavailable because it was sold out.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

  • Kansas City Star – Sam Mellinger argues that Andy Dalton’s $115 million extension won’t affect Alex Smith’s negotiations with the Chiefs:

"This works on a few levels. Dalton and Kaepernick are getting life-changing money after making — relative to NFL quarterbacks — peanuts. Smith already has life-changing money, and by all indications has been responsible with it. So he doesn’t need the quick payday. Also, he values stability more than a guy coming off his rookie deal and isn’t likely to go for what is realistically only a two-year guarantee."

"Even in his “holdout” Charles was focused on the team. Even when he gets asked a specific question to allow him to gloat about himself he doesn’t do it. Even when he’s given the opportunity to shrug off the importance of a preseason game to a guy like him he defers to whats best for the team."

  • Arrowhead Pride – Each of KC’s quarterbacks will play a quarter in game vs. Bengals

KANSAS CITY ROYALS

"In 2014, Howard is hitting .215/.297/.366 with 16 HR 63 RBI. His .664 OPS is worse than Wellington Castillo, D.J. LeMahieu, Juan Lagares, Mike Zunino, and yes, Billy Butler. Only 15 players in baseball qualify for the batting title and have a worse on-base percentage than his .297. Howard has also been a massive liability on defense for his entire career, and would thus have to serve as a full-time designated hitter for an American League club. Howard has -0.1 oWAR this year, when looking just at his offensive numbers."

KANSAS JAYHAWKS

  • KUSports.com – Andrew Wiggins Cavs jersey is sold out, not discontinued:

"The NBA’s online store over the weekend showed Wiggins’ Cavs’ jerseys as being unavailable for purchase. However, an unnamed league official said the jerseys are merely sold out. The official said sold-out items often are referred to as being “discontinued.”"

MISSOURI TIGERS

"Mizzou Basketball Head Coach Kim Anderson added yet another four-star talent to his 2014 recruiting class on Saturday as Montaque “Teki” Gill-Caesar (Vaughan, Ontario), a 6-foot-6, 215-pound small forward that attended Huntington Prep in Huntington, W. Va., signed a financial aid agreement to attend the University of Missouri and play basketball for the Tigers."
