Breaking News: Eric Berry Injured in Saturday Practice

The first casualty of the 2014 Kansas City Chiefs‘ season occurred when Eric Berry dislocated his finger in a training camp workout held Saturday at the campus of Missouri St. in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The Kansas City Star’s Adam Teicher reported the injury here:

Thankfully, the injury does not appear serious. At worst, a dislocated finger might inhibit Eric Berry‘s ability to hold onto interceptions. He should recover well before the season begins in the beginning of September.

In other Chiefs news, free agent signee Joe Mays has a sore knee that the team in monitoring:

Joe Mays is expected to start at inside linebacker next to Derrick Johnson in the Chiefs base 3-4 defense after signing with KC from Denver in the off-season. He could be challenged by 2013 draftee Nico Johnson, especially if Mays is slowed by a nagging knee injury.

Junior Hemingway is also nursing a sore hamstring. Hemingway is in the mix along with Weston Dresser and draftee De’Anthony Thomas to replace Dexter McCluster‘s production at slot receiver after the Chiefs lost him to Tennessee as a free agent.

The Kansas City Chiefs first pre-season game is two weeks away on August 7 against the Cinncinati Bengals. The Chiefs open the regular season September 7 against the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium.
