Ron Jaworski, former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst, is doing his annual countdown of starting quarterbacks and he has KC Chiefs’ Alex Smith at number 17.

Personally, I take what Jaws has to say with a grain of salt, considering he said Colin Kaepernick would be the best quarterback in football before last season started. Jaworski does know the game of football, and the quarterback position, but damn he is annoying.

Anyways, he has Alex Smith at number 17, which is a 3 spot increase from his last year ranking of 20th.

Smith is coming off a career year in which he saw new totals in yards (3,313), touchdowns (23) and played almost perfectly against Indy in the playoff game. And for what its worth, he lead the game winning drive for team Rice in the pro-bowl.

He’s also in the middle of discussions about an extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, though it’s reported it’s moving slowly. There is plenty of time to get that deal done and Smith has made it clear he would like to stay in KC.

We here at KCK have already touched on Jaworski’s list, as former Chiefs quarterback, Matt Cassel came in at 32, the worst in this year’s countdown. My co-editor, Leigh Oleszcack, covered it brilliantly and hilariously.

She also counted down her own QB rankings, counting down the last ten for the Chiefs over the past ten seasons. You can check out 10-6 here, and 5-1 here.

So what do you guys think of Jaworski’s ranking of Alex Smith? Too high or too low? Start the discussion below.
