Andrew Wiggins, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving: The New Big Three

facebooktwitterreddit

The Cleveland Cavaliers have owned the number one overall pick 3 of the last 4 years and the addition of former Kansas Jayhawks forward, Andrew Wiggins, might be their best since LeBron James. Well, James is back, partnered with other first overall pick Kyrie Irving making up a new big three in Cleveland.

James made his announcement on Friday morning with what Cleveland fans are calling “The Letter” in which James had published in Spots Illustrated.

As you can imagine, it’s been a very exciting time for Cleveland though they must get out the shovels and dig up the ashes of the burned jerseys. Through it all though, James made a decision that’s best for him and partnering with two young superstars in Wiggins and Irving probably made it easier.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

Nicknamed, “Maple Jordan” because of his Canadian roots, Wiggins averaged 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, showing his ability to make almost any play on the court. (stats via sportsreference.com/cbb)

With Wiggins and James as the two forwards, and Irving at the point, the Cavaliers offense could quickly become the best in the NBA.

Cleveland’s lineup will look something like this; Kyrie IrvingDion WaitersTristan Thompson, LeBron James and Andrew Wiggins- giving them loads of young talent. That lineup would be very hard to stop on a nightly basis.

In an article from Zac Jackson of FoxSports.com, he asked Wiggins about the return of LeBron James,

"“LeBron is the best player in the game,” Wiggins said. “It’s been an exciting day. Hearing the good news, that was a great feeling.”“It’s not all going to be LeBron,” Wiggins said. “He has backup. He has me, Kyrie, Tristan (Thompson), AB (Bennett). He has a lot of people on the team that can score and do whatever to help.”"

Wiggins is right, Cleveland is talented from top to bottom and are still trying to make moves to get the roster right. As it looks now, the Cavs are set for the short term and the long term, as LeBron is just 29 years old while the other former first round picks are barely into their 20’s.

The former Jayhawk superstar also spoke about learning from the 4 time league MVP,

"“It will be a great learning experience, kind of being under his wing,” Wiggins said. “I was just happy to hear the best player is coming to (my) team. It will be great for me.“We’ll bring it every day, just like he will. Hopefully he’ll take us under his wing and teach us what it takes to get to his level, build a championship team.”"

I’m not a Cleveland fan, or KU fan for that matter, but I will definitely be keeping my eyes on this team when the games begin this fall.
