2013 Friendly

USA faced Belgium in May of 2013 in a friendly contest in Cleveland, Ohio. USA was out played from the start as Belgium scored in only the 6th minute of the game when Kevin Mirallas chipped the ball over USA Goal Keeper Tim Howard to put Belgium up 1-0.

USA was able to answer back when Graham Zusi curled in a ball to the far post that Clint Dempsey rose up and headed back across goal and Geoff Cameron was able to put a head to it and direct it into goal to put both teams level at 1-1.

Belgium was relentless and was able to regain the lead when a errant clearance by Omar Gonzalez was gathered by De Bruyne who sent a ball across goal to Christian Benteke who tapped the ball in to give Belgium the 2-1 lead in the 56th minute.

Belgium added an insurance goal when Marouane Fellaini got on the end of a ball from De Bruyne and gave Belgium the 3-1 advantage in the 64th minute. Belgium still wasn’t finished and in the 71st minute Benteke completed his brace when he put in a ball from Steven Defour to go up 4-1.

Clint Dempsey was able to pull one back late with a penalty kick but USA was already too far behind too late in the game to have a chance to mount a come back. The game would finish 4-2 in favor of Belgium.
