Around the Kingdom: Mike Moustakas, the Fastball, and Chiefs Recievers

Kansas City is one of the best sports towns in the country, and KC Kingdom has a lot of fun bringing you news from around the area for our professional and collegiate teams.

Few fans are as passionate about their teams than Kansas City fans, whether it is making Arrowheamaskd Stadium the loudest outside venue in the world, or filling up Sporting Park each match, or being Royal in Kauffman Stadium. The area also supports three of the most passionate college fan bases in the country.

Each morning, we will try to bring you some news from around our sports kingdom, in addition to the news, information, editorials, and analysis KC Kingdom already provides.

We may also pass along an interesting post or two from around the world-wide web, just for fun.

We hope enjoy the news from Around The Kingom. Happy reading!

With the news that the Royals have sent struggling 3B Mike Moustakas to Omaha, fans cannot help but wonder what the heck has gone wrong for him in 2014? Dave Cameron at Fangraphs.com digs into Moustakas batted ball statistics to come up with an interesting answer: he’s hitting more balls outside the strike zone than inside.

Meanwhile, Hunter Samuels at Kings of Kauffman looks at the Royals performance with respect to the four-seam fastball: the most commonly thrown pitch in major league baseball.

As a group, Royals pitchers have been getting terrific results with their four-seam fastballs. Using the Pitchf/x data from FanGraphs, no team in baseball has had a more valuable fastball than the Royals, and it’s not particularly close. That pitch has been worth 27.5 runs above average.

Coming into the 2014 Draft, most pundits and fans considered WR the Chiefs no. 1 need. However, the team did not pick a single “true” WR despite a draft deep with prospects at the position. Arrowhead Addict’s Drew Clark takes a quick look at what we can expect from the position this upcoming season.

Last week, AA’s Nicholas Alan Clayton wrote that he hated the Aaron Murray pick. This week, he explains why De’Anthony Thomas is the pick that he loves.

Be sure to check out KC Kingdom throughout the day for news on the Chiefs, Royals, Sporting KC, Tigers, Wildcats, and Jayhawks.
