Fans have been waiting for this to happen, as Moustakas has not been having a good year at all. He has been hitting .152 with 19 hits, 17 RBI’s, nine runs, and four home runs. It seemed like Moose would finally be optioned, but last week he managed to hit two doubles in a game against the Rockies. That bought him an extra week, as Justin Maxwell was designated for assignment instead.
The KC Royals have been making moves all week long. A few days ago, second baseman Johnny Giavotella was optioned to Omaha and catcher Francisco Pena was recalled, as Salvador Perez has had some health issues.
The decision to option Moose was long overdue though, and while many didn’t think it would happen, it needed to happen. Danny Valencia has been playing well in Moose’s place so now seems like a good time to finally make this decision.
In Mike Moustakas’ place, infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes has been recalled from Omaha. Paredes was previously in the lineup when outfielder Lorenzo Cain went on the disabled list. Paredes has yet to have a hit, but he has been a pinch runner several times. He has managed two runs and two stolen bases.
The KC Royals have tonight off, but will head to Anaheim tomorrow to take on the Angels for a three game series. On Monday, the team returns to Kauffman Stadium for a home stand against the Astros. Right now the Royals are 23-23.
