The Kansas City Chiefs have officially signed fourth round draft choice De’Anthony Thomas. Thomas was the Chiefs’ third selection in the 2014 NFL Draft and many expect him to fill the role of former Chiefs WR/RB Dexter McCluster, who recently departed in free agency to the Tennessee Titans.

Thomas was a fourth round selection out of Oregon. He played for three seasons as a Duck and totaled 1,890 rushing yards along with 26 touchdowns. Thomas also fielded kick returns and punts during his Oregon days, which is what Chiefs fans are hoping he will continue to do in Kansas City. Thomas had four kick returns and one punt returned for touchdowns during his college days.
While the details of Thomas’ contract are unknown as of now, Chiefs fans are excited to see this kid in action. He was known for his speed at Oregon and ran a 4.5 during his 40-yard dash at the combine. Thomas will more than likely be used as an offensive weapon for Alex Smith and will give the Chiefs’ offense a lot of different options for 2014.
The Chiefs already have Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis as the main running backs on the roster. Cyrus Gray currently sits as the third-string quarterback and will have to prove himself against Thomas if he wants to stay in Kansas City.
Now that Thomas has signed his contract, the question is what will the number on his jersey be? He is the only rookie who has yet to pick a jersey number.
