The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the signing of their third round pick, Phillip Gaines. Here’s the proof,

This now makes three of the Chiefs six draft picks signed to a contract. Like I mentioned yesterday when discussing the Tardif signing, the new CBA allows these rookie deals to get done a lot faster. Dee Ford, De’Anthony Thomas, and Aaron Murray are all unsigned but it won’t be surpirsing to hear their news break over the next couple of days.

Phillip Gaines is a solid prospect who could contribute right away. I love what this kid brings to the table in terms of size and speed. He’s aggressive towards the ball and isn’t afraid to hit someone.

Having his speed in the secondary will definitely be an advantage and I’m sure it will come in handy when Sutton decides to send him on blitzes. If he can develop good man-to-man skills then the Chiefs got exactly what they needed out of this pick.
