Kansas City Chiefs finish 2014 Draft with Two Offensive Linemen

The Kansas City Chiefs finished up their 2014 NFL draft with two 6th round offensive linemen.

At the no. 193 overall pick of the draft, the Chiefs selected 6-5 315lb. G Zach Fulton,  from Tennessee. Fulton started 40 of his 47 games in the SEC and has started since 2010 at right guard.

Fulton is a big, massive guys who is strong enough to anchor in pass blocking. NFL.com calls him a “coach pleaser” who will be moldable at the next level. Fulton has experience playing against NFL-caliber tackles in the SEC. However, Fulton lacks strength and aggressiveness. He has heavy feet and has a hard time finding linebackers when trying to block on the 2nd level.

With their second pick of the 6th round, the Chiefs took 6-5, 321 OT Laurent Duvernay-Tardif from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Started his college career as a defensive lineman, but move to the offensive side to start the last 26 games in his college career. He won the J.P. Metras award for the best collegiate lineman in Canada.

NFLcom claims that he has a violent punch and outstanding aggressiveness. He’s nasty and likes to bury defensive linemen in run blocking. But, he’s raw, played relatively weak competition in Canada, and tends to lunge for blocks rather than stay under control by keeping he feet under him. However, he has clear tools that might be developed with strong coaching in the NFL.

Our Fansided local La Metropole Sports added a complete write about Duvernay-Tardif. Click here to read Jared Brooks’ story.

Obviously, Kansas City Chiefs GM John Dorsey is looking to address his offensive line depth issues with these two picks. Right now, RG Rishaw Johnson looks to be the favorite to move in the guard spot vacated by the departures of Jon Asomoah and Geoff Schwartz with these two late-round picks in the mix at camp.
