The big news in the sports universe is the NFL Draft Day. In case you’ve been living in a sports-proof bubble, Friday evening the NFL held the 1st round of the 2014 draft. The Chiefs played a big role in draft intrigue due to late rumors they would be interested in Johnny Manziel if he feel to their no. 23 pick.
The Cleveland Browns gave enough credence to those rumors to jump to no. 22 by trading with the Eagles to stop Johnny Football’s slide.
Instead, the Chiefs took Auburn’s Dee Ford. Arrowhead Addict’s Ben Nielsen was all over the story, first providing a quick grade for the pick, and then asking if the Chiefs had just sent a message to Tamba Hali.
Almost lost in the draft whirlwind, KU’s Andrew White III announced he is transferring away from KU. According to SI.com, KU basketball coach Bill Self told White:
“it would be questionable to break into the rotation,” so he decided to explore other options. White did not say where he would transfer.
Meanwhile, in Royals-land, young starter Danny Duffy pitched a strong 6.1 innings in a 1-0 losing effort to the Mariners Friday night. Kings of Kauffman’s Brian Henry suggests that now is the time for the Royals to offer Duffy a contract extension.
Be sure to check out KC Kingdom throughout the day for news on the Chiefs, Royals, Sporting KC, Tigers, Wildcats, and Jayhawks.
