Kansas City Chiefs Select Defensive End Dee Ford In First Round

In the 2014 NFL Draft Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Dee Ford, a defensive end from Auburn. Ford probably fits better as a pass rushing outside linebacker.

Check out the KC Kingdom scouting report on Dee Ford.

Dee Ford can be a disruptive force on defense. This past season, he had 12.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He could be an eventual replacement for Tamba Hali.

The Chiefs have a number of holes to fill including wide receiver, corner back, safety, offensive line, plus they need a pass rusher along the defensive line.

The Chiefs may have been able to trade down to pick up some later round picks, but the Philadelphia Eagles beat them to the punch with the 22nd pick.  The Eagles gave up their pick to the Cleveland Browns, who selected Johnny Manziel.

In all honesty, this isn’t  the direction I assumed the Chiefs would go. At first glance, it is a bit underwhelming. Even the announcers hardly bothered to analyze Dee Ford as the Kansas City pick.

Reminds me of the Tyson Jackson pick. The way the announcers were initially trying to figure the pick out. I trust Reid and Dorsey, I trust Reid and Dorsey…..

Trust has to be earned. Haley had a good run for a year. Then everyone wanted his head when JC, Moe, and Castle left this team with presumably as many holes as we have at this moment.

Really?? Reid and Dorsey have earned any informed fan’s trust. Both have many years off winning traditions.

I think this is a better pick than people wanna give credit for. Go defense first, plenty of receivers later in this draft. Everyone shook their head at Poe as well, give this pick a shot.

KC just drafted Percy Snow….again. This kid is a walking M*A*S*H* unit. A lot of collegiate ability but a larger than normal NFL gamble.

I’m fine with this pick. Sure he wasn’t the most “obvious” pick, but I like it nonetheless. He’ll be great for us years down the road.

I get the negativity. The Chiefs went 2-4 without Houston in the lineup and Tamba isn’t getting any younger. We barely touched Manning or Rivers when we played them. This is a pass crazy league. You can’t downplay the importance of having play makers that can get to the qb, and Dee Ford is arguably the best pass rusher not named Clowney in this draft. Give it time.
