In the 2014 NFL Draft Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Dee Ford, a defensive end from Auburn. Ford probably fits better as a pass rushing outside linebacker.

Check out the KC Kingdom scouting report on Dee Ford.

Dee Ford can be a disruptive force on defense. This past season, he had 12.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He could be an eventual replacement for Tamba Hali.

The Chiefs have a number of holes to fill including wide receiver, corner back, safety, offensive line, plus they need a pass rusher along the defensive line.

The Chiefs may have been able to trade down to pick up some later round picks, but the Philadelphia Eagles beat them to the punch with the 22nd pick.  The Eagles gave up their pick to the Cleveland Browns, who selected Johnny Manziel.

In all honesty, this isn’t  the direction I assumed the Chiefs would go. At first glance, it is a bit underwhelming. Even the announcers hardly bothered to analyze Dee Ford as the Kansas City pick.
