Last night Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay held their first ever live mock draft on ESPN. While it’s no secret that the KC Chiefs are looking to grab a wide receiver in the first round, it was still exciting to see who the analysts were predicting Kansas City to select.
McShay acted as the Chiefs’ general manger in this latest ESPN Mock Draft, and had the team taking wide receiver Marqise Lee out of USC. I have previously covered Lee in a scouting report, which you can read here.

The live mock draft consisted of nine receivers going in the first round including Sammy Watkins to the St. Louis Rams with the second overall pick, Mike Evans to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Odell Beckham Jr. going to the Detroit Lions, Brandin Cooks becoming a New York Jet, Jordan Matthews going to the Philadelphia Eagles one pick before the Chiefs, obviously Lee coming to Kansas City with the 23rd pick, Bruce Ellington joining the Cleveland Browns, Cody Latimer going to the New Orleans Saints and Davante Adams becoming a Carolina Panther.
I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to Lee becoming a Chief, but he has had injury problems during his college career. His best season in college came in 2012 when he had 118 receptions for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns. 2013 Lee managed 57 receptions for 791 yards and four touchdowns.
Lee could be a huge help to the KC Chiefs’ offense and I’m sure Alex Smith wouldn’t mind having a talented young guy to throw the ball to. Oh yeah and Dwayne Bowe needs someone decent to play opposite of him so that Kansas City has a shot at taking the AFC West title this season.
What are your thoughts Chiefs Kingdom? Do you like the idea of Marqise Lee becoming a Chief or would you rather they draft a different guy?
