Myles Turner will announce to the world what school he will attend for a year this Wednesday, April 30th, and 3 pm Central.
This will be one of these awful mad-for-television announcements. ESPNU will broadcast the silly hat picking ceremony.
The Texas Longhorns may be the favorite, but the incoming recruits for the Kansas Jayhawks, Cliff Alexander and Kelly Oubre, have been trying to convince Turner to attend Kansas in the wake of Joel Embiid leaving for the NBA. Embiid himself as talked to Turner.
Of course, Turner may choose a completely different school. College heavy weights such as Ohio State and the Duke Blue Devils are thought to still be in the hunt. Other teams still on Turner’s list include fellow Big 12 school, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, plus the Texas A&M Aggies, and the SMU Mustangs.
The last school is an interesting option. SMU is coached by former Kansas Jayhawk coach, Larry Brown. Brown, of course, has a long history of successes in college and in the NBA. He also coached one of the greatest college basketball players ever in Danny Manning. Brown has already signed a top point guard, Emmanuel Mudiay, ranked as the 5th highest recruit in the country by ESPN.
At Kansas, Bill Self has turned big men such as Cole Aldrich, Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris, Thomas Robinson, Jeff Withey, Darnell Jackson, and Sasha Kaun into NBA draft picks. In a few weeks, you will be able to add Joel Embiid to that list.
While televising a kid pick his NBA training ground is annoying, it certainly generates interest and excitement. The fans of several schools will be waiting for good news until Wednesday afternoon.
Hopefully, it will be Kansas fans that will be the happiest. If Turner chooses Kansas, the Jayhawks will be completely loaded once again.
