Carl Bradford, Linebacker: Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report

While the 2014 NFL Draft is being held a few weeks later than usual, it’s still an exciting time for football fans. The Kansas City Chiefs have six total picks, but unfortunately don’t have any in the second round. It might be in the Chiefs’ best interest to trade down so that they can move into the second round. If Kansas City can move into the second round, perhaps they’ll draft outside linebacker Carl Bradford of Arizona State.

Carl Bradford played for the Sun Devils for three seasons and is forgoing his senior season to enter the draft this year. While at Arizona State, Bradford racked up 154 tackles, 21.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, and two interceptions (one was returned for a touchdown; Source: Sports Reference).

Bradford has been rumored to go anywhere from the second to the fourth round. If Bradford is still available in the third or even the fourth round, Kansas City might just have to scoop him up.

“Explosive tackler. Can play on his feet off the ball and times up the blitz well. Good hands. Athletic enough to fold back into coverage.” – Carl Bradford’s strengths according to Nolan Nawrocki of

In a recent mock draft from Fox Sports, Joel Klatt projected C.J. Mosley of Alabama going to Kansas City in round one. I honestly doubt that Mosley will be available by the time pick 23 rolls around so I’m sure the Chiefs would be up for grabbing a linebacker in the middle rounds of the draft. If Bradford is the best player on the board when the Chiefs are on the clock, they might grab him.

“Smooth accelerator off the edge but doesn’t possess great speed. Can play out of control, at times, dropping his head to deliver the knockout blow and occasionally whiffing on open-field tackles. Can allow his emotions to get the better of him; benched for the second half against Oregon State Nov. 16 after a physical altercation with teammates on the sideline.” – Carl Bradford’s weaknesses according to Rob Rang of NFL Draft Scout
