Jeremiah Attaochu, Linebacker: Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report

With only six picks in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs definitely have their work cut out for them. While linebacker isn’t one of their biggest necessities, the team should consider picking up a new young stud after the first round. One talented outside linebacker in this year’s draft is Jeremiah Attaochu of Georgia Tech.

Jeremiah Attaochu played for the Yellow Jackets for four years. He redshirted as a freshman and played in 12 games that season. Throughout his career, Attaochu totaled 196 tackles, 31.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles (Source: Sports Reference). Attaochu did not attend the Combine due to a left finger injury.

The consensus on Attaochu’s draft stock seems to be that he will be selected either in the second or third round. Kansas City does not have a second round pick, but if Attaochu slides to the third round the Chiefs would have to consider taking him.

“Looks the part with an athletic build and long arms, using his range to make plays all over the field. Good get-off quickness with the chase skills to track down the ballcarrier from behind and finish. Impressive blend of athleticism and strength to work off blocks and battle through the whistle.” – Attaochu’s strengths according to Dane Brugler of NFL Draft Scout

While doing some research on Jeremiah Attaochu, it does appear that he had a few notable injuries during his college career. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but sometimes injury prone players in college are still injury prone in the pros.

The Chiefs should snatch up Attaochu in the third round (if he’s still available) because having yet another strong linebacker to join the likes of Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, and Derrick Johnson would greatly benefit the defense. There have been rumors about trading Hali, which shows that he more than likely won’t be in Kansas City as long as fans want him to be. Johnson has been with the team for nine seasons and while he’s still a hard hitter, he’s about past his prime. Houston is the team’s standout player and it would be awesome to see some young blood paired with him on the field in 2014.
