Kansas City Chiefs Met With Georgia QB, Aaron Murray

There’s a report from USA Today’s Jim Corbett that the Chiefs met with Georgia quarterback, Aaron Murray on Tuesday night. Corbett writes,

"Murray met with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday night and will interview with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday."

Makes sense for the Chiefs to be interested in Murray as he is a player that has all the intangibles Andy Reid looks for in his quarterbacks. Our own, Leigh Oleszczak, did a great draft profile for Murray a few weeks back, and in it she explained what scouts think of Murray pre draft,

"“Diminutive, game-managing pocket passer still recovering from a torn ACL. Would benefit from a moving pocket that can create open throwing lanes, yet does not have the foot quickness desired for a rollout passing game. Possesses a skill set most ideally suited for a backup or No. 3 role. Intelligence, intangibles and experience are all pluses.” – Nawrocki’s “Bottom Line” on Aaron Murray"

Kansas City only owns six picks in this years draft and with owner, Clark Hunt making it public that he wants Alex Smith to stay a Cheif, you would think that quarterback wouldn’t be a position of need. However, if Murray happens to fall in the Chiefs lap in the third round, there is no question that they should draft him.

The biggest concern surrounding Murray is his health, as he is just 5 months removed from a torn ACL. But according to reports, including Corbett, Murray is way ahead of schedule with his recovery and even attended ESPN’s QB camp with Jon Gruden. Gruden was quoted in Corbett’s artcile saying,

"“I didn’t want to stress him that much because I realized he just had surgery,” Gruden said. “So I said, ‘What can’t you do?’ He said, ‘I’m full go. Let’s let it rip.’ He put a brace on. We threw him on the move, threw some awkward deliveries. I couldn’t have been more impressed.”"

Sure, the Chiefs don’t need a quarterback this instant but grooming Murray behind Daniel and Smith could be a great option for the future. Murray’s draft stock is still fluctuating as some still view him as a fourth or fifth round pick but, with the increase of teams interested in working him out and meeting with him privately, perhaps his stock is rising him as high as the second or third round.

He set to have a private workout next week with the Cleveland Browns as well.

Personally, I would love if John Dorsey and Andy Reid took the flier out on this kid especially if he falls to them in the third or fourth round. What say the rest of the Kingdom? Would you like to see the Chiefs draft Murray or any quarterback for that matter?
