With the Missouri Tigers coming off a very strong 2013 season, winning the SEC East and capping off their run with old Big 12 foe Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl, Gary Pinkel and his staff are hoping to pick up some momentum on the recruiting trial as they head into the 2014 season. The Tigers had a solid, if not the flashiest recruiting class this year, ranking at number 33 on ESPN.
The class was highlighted by players like Andy Bauer, Brandon Lee, and Nate Brown. However, Missouri has done in excellent job in evaluating talent that fits their system under Gary Pinkel, especially the last five to seven years, even if they don’t land all the coveted four and five star players.
For the 2015 class, Missouri has it’s eyes set on stud quarterback Drew Lock from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. And he’s making his decision today, April 9th.
A gifted athlete in not only football but basketball as well, Drew Lock has wowed big time programs with his impressive size and electric arm. Standing at 6-5 and weighing 195 pounds, Lock is the pro typical quarterback for a pro style passing attack.
He is a unanimous four star recruit across the board, and has seen his stock rise dramatically over the months. He has fielded offers from the likes of Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio State, Kentucky, Illinois, Ole Miss, and most recently the University of Texas.
Lock has offensive college coaches absolutely drooling over his potential at the D-1 level, and Missouri has been recruiting him for a while now, led by Missouri quarterback’s coach Andy Hill.
Drew’s father actually played offensive line at Missouri, which is part of the reason Missouri is considered the strong favorite to land Lock when he makes his announcement on Wednesday April 9th.
With Lock’s impending decision, Missouri football fans should also pay attention to some of the other top recruits from high schools in Missouri. Yesterday they recieved a commitment from 4 star running back Nate Strong, which was a huge pickup.
Also remember the names of fellow in state studs Alex Ofodile, and Hale Hentges. Both have received some impressive offers along with the one’s Lock has received.
Hentges has received offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, alongside Missouri’s offer as well. Ofodile’s list includes Missouri, Alabama, Florida State, Arkansas, and Indiana. While it’s a long shot to think that Missouri could land all three of these stud high school recruits, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
It’s an exciting time for Missouri football and the recruiting should only get better over the next few years for the Tigers. Gary Pinkel has established a strong foundation, and has proven his program can compete at a high level in the vaunted SEC.
