On Tuesday afternoon, the Missouri Tigers picked up a huge boost on the recruiting front picking up a verbal commitment from 4 star running back Natereace Strong out of East St. Louis High School. Strong had received offers from many others schools, including Michigan State, Ohio State, and recent National Champion Florida State.
This was a huge pickup for Mizzou, as it works to compete for highly touted recruits and stay competitive in the SEC. Missouri’s 2015 class is looking very impressive so far, and with the addition of Nate Strong, their class rank on Rivals jumped from number 40 to 30 and has a great chance at getting even better over the next few weeks.
Missouri hopes to convince Nate Strong’s friend and East St. Louis teammate Terry Beckner Jr. who is a five star defensive end who has Missouri listed as one of his top schools. He was in Columbia on Tuesday when Strong made his commitment, and is listed as the number two overall recruit in 2015 on 247 Sports.
Last season with East St. Louis, Strong carried the ball 67 times for 595 yards and 5 TDs in a shared backfield. Strong averaged a staggering 8.9 yards per carry in his role for the Flyers last season. Nate Strong is a gifted athlete, and a very capable running back. But at 5’11” and 190 pounds, he is not the typical build for the Missouri Tigers.
And I think that’s a very good thing. He brings some much needed power and tenacity to the position, but still has some outstanding lateral quickness as well. Missouri often has a stable of running backs, and I believe Strong has the potential to add a different element to Missouri’s offense in the future.
