Round 1: Brandin Cooks, Wide Receiver, Oregon State

After missing out on Emmanuel Sanders and DeSean Jackson in free agency, the Chiefs must find a play maker for opposite Dwayne Bowe. Brandin Cooks of Oregon State could be exactly that.

Here’s what Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com had to say about Cooks on his scouting reports,

"Special athlete with explosive feet and natural burst – springs in his legs. Fluid body control with excellent start/stop moves, open-field vision and patient hesitation to elude defenders – joystick moves with loose hips and joints. Beautiful acceleration with speed to burn – electric after the catch. Quick hands to adjust and pluck with very good coordination to look the ball into his mitts. Quick footwork to set up his routes and fool defenders – has worked hard to fine-tune this area. Works hard to max out his frame."

At 5’9″ and 189 pounds, Cooks isn’t the biggest guy on the field but makes up for it with exceptional speed and hands. His 4.33, 40 yard dash has helped shoot him up many draft boards and many experts have cooks going as early as number 18 to the New York Jets.

Kansas City needs a guy that can stretch the field and relieve some of the bodies that defenses stack in the box to stop Jamaal Charles. With Cooks speed and clean route running, he could take the top off of defenses and really give Alex Smith a reason to throw deep again. It makes a ton of sense for Kansas City to be interested in Brandin Cooks at 23.

The last time I did this simulation I took Marquise Lee, who was also there when I drafted this time but, after doing some studying, I feel like Cooks could be the more explosive player.
