PITCHING MATCH UP
Rookie Yordano Ventura will take the mound for the Kansas City Royals, facing off against Anibal Sanchez for the Tigers. Ventura made three starts last September for Kansas City, going 15.1 innings with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.239 WHIP. Sanchez went 14-8 in his first campaign with the Tigers, putting up an impressive 2.57 ERA and a 1.154 WHIP.
The Royals would love to see Ventura become just the third starting pitcher since the 1980’s to be a home grown star, joining Kevin Appier and Zack Greinke. Stopping a 2-game losing streak would be a start.
Neither team has been very impressive at the plate thus far, but the Royals have just 4 runs on 13 hits in 19 innings. They are 1-16 with runners in scoring position thus far.
