NFL Rumors: Kansas City Chiefs Close To Restructured Deal With Eric Berry?

All-Pro Safety, Eric Berry, of the Kansas City Chiefs  posted this on his Facebook page earlier today,

‘Expect a few announcements coming up….”

He also posted a picture below of him flexing while running onto the field during introductions of a Chiefs home game last year. Speculation is that Berry and the Chiefs are close to an extension and with the news of DeSean Jackson being released, the timing of it all makes it look like some dots are starting to connect.

Of course, this is all just speculation, but why else would Berry feel the need to make this post with a picture of him in flexing as a Chief? If Kansas City can get this deal done, it will surely free up cap space for 2014 and beyond, possibly freeing up enough room to bring in DJax.

No one major in the media has speculated on what Berry’s announcement could be, so I don’t have any kind of evidence that it’s a restructure or extension that’s coming. Hopefully, it is, as this would be the first step in many extensions that need to be done in the next year or so. Alex Smith is in the final year of his deal and Justin Houston is due as well.

Lots of speculation going on after that Facebook post. Could be team-related. Could be something personal to Berry. Time will tell.

Just for fun, if Berry restructures, Jackson signs with the Chiefs and then Dorsey drafts a WR, would the Chiefs cut Bowe? How much cap money would that make available?

    • 2dogs

Good question about Bowe. If we owe him say $10m this year and he gets picked up by another team that gives him $8m do we end up with only a $2m cap hit?

      • Hawthorne

Actually because of the way Bowe’s contract is structured, if we cut him this year we would lose cap space. Sounds crazy, but that’s how it is.

    • Josh Michaels

Terez A Paylor of the Kansas City star tweeted that if he chiefs cut Bowe before June 1 next year, they will save $9.5 million in cap space in 2015

    • Antoin Wagner

I proposed this same scenario, but I would love to see what Bowe does with Jackson on the field with him. Bowe, in my opinion, is a pretty good reciever but without much talent around him he was easily targeted by defenses. With that being said he is still overpaid lol

No way they let Bowe go this year. They want to see what he can do with good receivers and TEs on the field with him. There’s still is a chance that Bowe gets suspended for 2-4 games also.

    • John Davenport

You’re probably right, just speculating. Sure would like to have some of that money back though.

      1 game max

If this IS true and eb is getting extended, that would be huge. Not only for eb and the chiefs, but, maybe for djax, too. The offense played really well in the second half of the season with bums. Plus, djax already knows Reid’s system. Probably just wishful thinking but this offense would be dangerous…quickly. GO CHIEFS!!!

Turns out, it was an announcement about his free football camps over the summer.. Lol what a buzz kill
