The Wichita State Shockers play the Cal Poly Mustangs this afternoon, in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament on CBS so if you are on the go, or stuck at work, and can’t be near your television, we have you covered. You can still catch the Wichita State Shockers live stream action as they take on the Mustangs at NCAA.com.
THREE KEYS TO THE GAME
1. MAINTAIN FOCUS: The Shockers are the superior team, obviously, but they cannot allow the underdog any glimmer of hope to grow during the course of the game. Wichita State needs to take care of business in this early round match up. Last year, they were the hunters, lying in wait for the big dogs. This year, the Shockers will be the hunted as the underdogs will be seeking to knock off the number one seed. The Mustangs have won 4 in a row, and are about as hot as they can be right now
2. FRED VANVLEET: Wichita State’s point guard, and the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Fred VanVleet, maybe the best point guard in the country, and no one knows who he is. He is the one player the Shockers may not do without. He gets them into the offense with patient efficiency, and is their leader on defense. He is a fantastic player; this is the time to show everyone on the biggest stage.
3. CONTAIN CHRIS EVERSLEY: Who? If you think the Shockers play in obscurity, how well known are the 14-19 Mustangs? There leading scorer and rebounder is senior forward Chris Eversley. He nets 13.6 points a game, and pulls in 7.1 boards. If Wichita State can take Eversley out of the game, the Mustangs will almost no chance to pull off the historic upset.
