As Alper reports, it looks like Asamoah will get $4.5 million a year from the Falcons. Atlanta wasn’t the only team apparently interested. The Jets at least kicked the tires over the weekend.
Asamoah is just one of three offensive linemen that saw significant playing time in 2013 that will be leaving the Chiefs via free agency.
It looks as if Branden Albert has agreed to terms with the Dolphins, and Geoff Schwartz has several suitors., maybe even the San Francisco Giants!
The Chiefs are going to be rebuilding their offensive line as Jared discussed this morning, and at least Albert and Asamoah will be officially be gone before the day is over.
The Chiefs just do not have the salary cap space to re-sign their free agent linemen, and will have to piece something together. I keep expecting to hear that John Dorsey and some of the Chiefs have restructured some contracts but so far, there hasn’t been any announcements indicating this is the case.
The Chiefs do not appear to be in on any of the bigger name free agents, regardless of position. It will be hard to win 11 games again shopping in the discount free agency bin.
If players are cheap, there is a reason for this. Kansas City could not afford Branden Albert, Asamoah, or Schwartz, so we know that whoever takes their place on the roster will not be expensive free agents.
It looks like the Chiefs’ roster is going to get worse before it gets better.
