The New Orleans Saints announced the release of running back, Darren Sproles, late Friday afternoon. Sproles is a native to the Kansas City area, having grown up in Olathe and attending college with the Kansas State Wildcats. Here’s some tweets on the release of Sproles,
Thank you New Orleans for your support over the past 3 years! I will always be forever grateful. #WhoDat

Releasing #Saints RB Darren Sproles saves$3.5M & continues the house cleaning of sorts on offense. Lance Moore cut, Pierre Thomas in danger

Obviously, Sproles could be a solid fit for the Kansas City Chiefs because he is from the area. He could also be the answer to Dexter McClusters departure from the Cheifs. Sproles lined up just about every where the last few years, and Drew Brees loved giving him the ball. Sproles was targeted 89 times last year, hauling in 71 catches, for 604 yards and 2 touchdowns (stats via ESPN.com). He would fit in nicely with Alex Smith and the Chiefs west coast offense.
The problem is going to be how much money he is worth, and the Chiefs having a crowded backfield. With Andy Reid already stating that Knile Davis will have a more “expanded” role moving forward, the Chiefs would have to make room for Sproles as a passing situation back. He can definitely carry the ball as well, but the Chiefs will likely want to give majority of those carries to Jamaal Charles.
Still, having a backfield that consisted of Jamaal Charles and Darren Sproles could be very deadly. Imagine the tricky screens and designed plays for the redzone that could be developed with those to players on the roster. It’s very intriguing, and it will be interesting to see if the Chiefs will be interested in Mr., Sproles services.
Darren Sproles could be an excellent addition if the money was right. What do you think? Would you like to see Sproles come home and play for the Chiefs?
