KC Kingdom is expanding at a rapid pace, and our goal is to be the best Kansas City area sports site on the internet. Aaron, Josh,  and I are pleased to announce we have added another new staff member, John Viril, to our team.

John will be helping in our effort to expand our Royals and Chiefs coverage. We are excited to have him writing for KC Kingdom.

John Viril is off to a flying, and has already published his first two articles with us. In his first article, he talks about how John Dorsey is ready to establish his legacy with the Chiefs, and he discussed if the Chiefs should consider taking a look at Sidney Rice upon his release from the Seahawks.

Like all of the new writers to KC Kingdom, John Viril took a few minutes to answer eight questions so we can get to know him just a little better. Here are his answers to those 8 questions:

How did you become a fan of the team you’re covering?

My parents had season tickets to the Chiefs since I was a small child. I started going to games when I was ten. For the Royals, I am old enough that I remember when they were a perennial contender and EVERYONE in KC was a fan.

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?

I grew up in south KC. Now, I live in Tucson, Arizona.

What is your college/educational background?

I have a B.S. in biology from Tulane University and a J.D. from UMKC

What do you do for a living?

I am a founding team member of an early-stage health care IT venture based in Vallejo, CA. My primary role is marketing IT products to medical offices, but I have also helped prepare presentations to potential investors.

Do you have a family?

No.

What do you like to do for fun (sports related or otherwise)?

I play far more Texas Hold’em poker than I should and I don’t work out enough.

What are your least favorite team(s) and why?

New York Yankees. Cheering for the Yankees is like hoping Darth Vader will catch Bambi. I can’t stand the St. Louis Cardinals due to a small subset of fans that are still blaming Don Denkinger for the Cardinals choking away the 6th game of the 1985 World Series. I can’t believe some people still Tweet about that during every Royals/Cardinals series.

Like most Chiefs fans, I can’t stand the cheat’n Donx, for self-explanatory reasons. I also love to see the Dallas Cowboys lose. Is there a more arrogant fanbase in all of sports?

What is your favorite sports moment or memory?

Dane Iorg’s game winning hit in 1985.
