Missouri Tigers Drop Season Series To Georgia Bulldogs With 15-Point Loss

The Missouri Tigers dropped their second game in row last night, losing 71-56 to the Georgia Bulldogs.  The Tigers have dropped to 9th in the SEC and once again are straddling the line between in and out of the NCAA tournament.

LEADING SCORERS:

Missouri:  Jordan Clarkson – 17 Points, 4 Rebounds, 4 Assists

Georgia:  Charles Mann – 19 Points, 8 Rebounds, 4 Assists, 2 Steals

THE STORY:

It looked like we were in for another stress inducing, fast paced, back and forth game on Tuesday night.  At the first TV timeout Georgia lead 9-8.  The lead changed hands a few times in the first half.  Then with 7 minutes left in the first half the game turned into some the worst basketball you will see.  Over the next 6 minutes Mizzou was outscored 4-2 and nothing was going right.  Jabari Brown got the only bucket as the team shot 1-12 from the floor during that time.

The only thing stopping Georgia from running away with the game was that they went 0-5 from the free throw line, with 3 of those being the front end of a 1 and 1.  With 1 minute left in the half Missouri was only down 25-22.  Nemanja Djurisic then hit two 3 pointers in the last minute to give Georgia a 9 point lead.

The second half was all Georgia.  The lead never went below 8 and got stretched as far as 24 points.  Mizzou ended the game on an 8-2 run to get it within 15 points but the result was never in doubt.

Clarkson and Brown had 17 unimpressive points apiece, going 4-12 and 5-17 respectively.  Earnest Ross completely disappeared for this game.  In 30 minutes he managed 4 points and 4 rebounds.  With only 3 games left before the SEC tournament, Missouri cannot have another disappointment like this or they will find themselves left out come Selection Sunday.

WHO’s NEXT

The Missouri Tigers will face the Mississippi State Bulldogs Saturday, March 1st at 12:30 PM CDT on ESPN 3.
