Last week, the Missouri Mavericks mascot made the news when an opposing player purposely tripped him up on the ice. The Mavericks, of the Central Hockey League, knew they were going to be in a battle last Saturday against the Allen Americans when Allen goalie, Mark Guggenberger, tripped the Mavericks mascot right out of the tunnel.
According to Deadspin.com, Guggenberger was fined an undisclosed amount. The goalie sent the Maverick Mascot, known as “Mac” to the ice with blade of his skate, evidently a technique called “slewfooting.”
This incident even made it onto ESPN’s weekly “Not So Top 10″ list this past Friday.
The Missouri Mavericks are winning the Central Hockey League with a record of 32-14-2, with 66 points. Allen is in 4th place, sitting at 27-18-4, and 58 points.
Evidently, mascots in the Central Hockey League deserves hazard pay…
